Back in the Skies!

Yesterday our very own Bob Pountney took to the skies once more at the RAF Cosford Air show.

Bob relived his past by flying in the first Search and Rescue helicopter he ever crewed, the Wessex Whirlwind.

Speaking to our Chairman Mark Mair after his Airshow trip Bob said it was fantastic to fly in this iconic rescue helicopter.

Bringing a Whirlwind to Morayvia is something which are very much part of our future plans, and we would love to restore such an iconic helicopter such as the Whirlwind and bring it back to Moray.

The Whirlwind was the predecessor to the Sea King in Search and Rescue operations, with Bob making the transition to the Sea King and was the focus of a TV series in the late 80s called “Rescue”, with Bob  featuring in rescues such as the Piper Alpha disaster, ships sinking and even helping new born babies.
