SAR Collection taking shape with Wessex near completion

With the Wessex near completion, this particular Search and Rescue Helicopter’s progress marks a historic milestone at Morayvia. The team of volunteers has transformed it from a battered wreck to exhibit ready for visitors in the 2018 season. One last component is the instrument panel has been restored and will be fitted by the end of the year.

The completion of the Wessex sitting alongside the Sea King we will be two thirds towards a unique collection of SAR aircraft.

Whirlwind coming

Our next project will be the Whirlwind Helicopter which will be one of our longer-term projects, however, the engineering team is already looking at the planning for that.

Chairman Mark Mair congratulated the team on their hard work, commenting;

“as always during the close season we are looking to add to our exhibits on show, and getting the Wessex ready for 2018 is an example of that. The time and effort our dedicated volunteers put into Morayvia never cease to amaze, and I really am proud of what they have done. This latest exhibit completion gives the public another reason to come back to the centre and see another exhibit with close links to the Moray area.”

The Wessex has been just one of the new exhibits we have been working on. We look forward to getting more ready for display in the new year.

The shop is still open in the run-up to Christmas, with gifts available for purchase each weekend. The shop will be open 12-4pm Saturday and Sunday this coming weekend.
